Converting a 1974 to 1989 Porsche 911 is a precision job. These cars are valuable, their rear engine handling is famously sensitive to weight placement, and owners expect the result to feel sharper, not heavier. The RESTOVOLT Fitment Pack was developed with chassis balance as the first requirement.

Platform history

The impact bumper G-body cars, including the 911 SC and 3.2 Carrera, represent the bridge between early 911s and the modern era. They are durable, galvanized from 1976 onward, and supported by a deep aftermarket. Electric restomods of these cars are a growing segment among collectors who want a usable, quiet grand tourer while keeping the original engine safely stored for future reversal.

Conversion considerations

Balance is the discipline. A stock 911 carries roughly 60 percent of its mass over the rear axle. Placing all batteries in the engine bay makes this worse, so the pack splits modules between the front trunk, the former fuel tank location, and a slim rear box. The factory 915 or G50 gearbox can be retained through an adapter, or replaced with a compact drive unit. Torsion bar suspension needs revalving and stiffer bars. We strongly recommend reversible mounting on numbers matching cars.

Weight and packaging

Front trunk modules plus a rear box over the drive unit bring the weight split close to 47 front and 53 rear in reviewed builds. HV cabling runs through the central tunnel in a dedicated conduit. Cooling uses the factory engine lid grille with a low profile radiator.

Range and cost bands

Parts range from $70,000 to $140,000. Many owners choose new modules and premium drive units, and suspension and brake upgrades are typical. Labor runs 260 to 400 hours. See the full 911 EV conversion cost breakdown.
